Let's Try That Again - Sesame Street Countdown
On the night of the sad death of Jerry Nelson, we decided to play a game honoring him, a game Ricky remembers from childhood; Sesame Street Countdown staring The Count. It's a simple game designing for three-year-olds but good ol' Adamant Ditto finds a way to make it entertaining anyway. Also, Matt sucks at everything so it's fun to watch him screw up in a preschool game.
Jerry Nelson was a very talented man, one of my personal favorites, and I wanted to do something to honor him. So why not play a game made for four year olds staring his most famous character? So hopefully you enjoy this. It's really short so you can get through it quickly.

VGM of the Week #30
Hey there Party People, Are you ready for some Music? No? Well TOO BAD! 'Cause I have some Music that's straight outta a Video Game!
Going with a True Classic this time...One that should be embedded in our memories until the end of time
That's right, the Super Mario Bros. Theme! I'm surprised noone has used this yet, it's a True Classic. This song has probably been done with every instrument out there, remixed to death, but the Original is still the best version in my eyes. You have to love the Chiptune-y goodness of this amazing Classic.
So, enjoy this glimpse into the Red Plumber's Humble Beginnings

The Top Five Nintendo NES Games that Deserve the Kid Icarus Treatment
So hey, Kid Icarus: Uprising was just released and it’s kind of a big deal. Nintendo fans the world over are rejoicing in victory because this once dead franchise has finally come back to life and you know what, it’s actually really good. They’ve managed to take the relatively simple and undeveloped world of the original Kid Icarus and has turned it into something epic and fun. I haven’t played it yet but it got reviews and apparently has about 40+ hours of content. That’s insane. Hopefully it’ll catch on and this franchise will live again.

"Sorry to keep you waiting for 20 years." |
So, in keeping with tradition, let’s talk about other NES
games by Nintendo that could potentially make a comeback into something epic. Nintendo
has a very strong wealth of a backlog of franchises and very rarely utilizes
all of them. They like to stick to the tried and true like Mario, Zelda, Pokémon,
Kirby, etc. which is fine, those are all great franchises but sometimes it’s
nice to see some of the classics get revived. Punch-Out!! For the Wii was a
great return to form for the long dormant franchise but unfortunately wasn’t as
well received by consumers as Nintendo would have hoped. Hopefully Kid Icarus
can change that and Nintendo will try with another franchise. So let’s take a
look at the five I’d like to see the most.

Abobo's Big Adventure is Now Up!
Awhile ago, back when we first started this blog, I posted a video about an amazing fan-game being made called Abobo's Big Adventure. It's a giant love letter to everything NES with tons of different playstyles, enemies and locations from classic NES games as well the main playable character being Abobo from Double Dragon.
Well, the wait is over, Abobo's Big Adventure went live today and let me tell you, it is great. I've only played the first level, which is the beat-em-up portion based on Double Dragon but in that level alone I ran into Goombas, Donkey Kong, Kid Nikki, the Spies from Spy vs. Spy, A T&C Skater, Alex from River City Ransom, a handful of enemies from Double Dragon, as well as a few sprites I didn't even recognize. It's also pretty dang hard, I lost almost all of my lives on the first level but you can tell a lot of love and care went into the game because of the original sprites, the gameplay and even it's achievement system. Definitely check it out here.

The Top Six NES Games That Should Get 3D Classic Remakes
If you caught my Monday Top Picks last week, then you know I
was focusing on the 3DS and what games I’d like to see Nintendo remake for it.
Well, this week I’m listing the NES games I want to get the 3D Classic upgrade.
![]() |
Ugh. Seriously guys? |
The 3D Classic games are enhanced version of classic NES
games made to show off the 3D on the 3DS, though for the most part it isn’t
very deep. I mean, it is a bunch of 8-bit sprites, how deep can it be? Whether
you find the 3D interesting or not, it’s still a fun concept. However, the
choices for games so far have been… questionable at best. The first was
Excitebike, which was a fine choice, it’s a highly nostalgic and well
remembered game for many gamers and the 3D was actually pretty cool. Then there
was Xevious and Twinbee, two third party, shoot-em-up games that are okay but
nothing I would imagine fans were demanding. Then there was Urban Champion. I
will never understand Nintendo’s obsession with this game, it’s terrible. You
could literally make a list of every other first party Nintendo game on the NES
and every single other game on it would be a better choice than Urban Champion.
The most recent 3D Classic was Kirby’s Adventure, which marks the first time a
really great game got the treatment, as well as one that felt like a game by
today’s standards. Gaming has come a long way since the NES days and games like
Excitebike and Xevious might keep gamers entertained for a while, but they
likely won’t hold their attention for long. It’s great to see a game like Kirby’s
Adventure, and the upcoming Kid Icarus remake, get the treatment because, well,
they can actually be beat.
So I’m going to take a look at the six NES games that should
get 3D Classic remakes. Unlike the last list, I’m going to include third party
games because, as I already mentioned, Xevious and Twinbee have gotten the treatment.
I’m also not going to include any of the ten games Nintendo gave out for their
3DS ambassador program. While it would be great to get games like Super Mario
Bros. or Metroid as a 3D Classic, a lot of people already have them plus, they
seem like obvious choices at this point. So I’m looking at six games you can’t
get on the 3DS at all yet. So let’s get started.

Fan-Made 4 Player Mega Man Looks Amazing
A few days ago, I posted a video of a fan game called Abobo's Big Adventure. It was basically just one big homage to the NES era and it looks amazing. Well, for the second time in a week, fans continue to impress me with their takes on gaming classics. Today, I discovered an upcoming fan game project by the name of Mega Man Perfect Harmony and it's all about four player action.
As you can tell from the video, you traverse through the worlds of Mega Man fighting off swarms of enemies, roughly 6,000 bullets, tons of classic Mega Man puzzles and of course, a robot master at the end of each stage. So far it looks like you can only play as Mega Man, Proto Man, Bass and Enker for some reason. But browsing the website suggests that more characters such as Roll, Punk, Ballade and several robot masters will be playable in it's final release.
While I'm not sure if a multiplayer Mega Man game is something fans have been clamoring for, it's looking to be a lot of fun. I commend these diehard fans for putting together something like this in the first place. I could never do it.
You can find more information and a downloadable demo over at Rocks Clan.

Abobo's Big Adventure is the Game of the Year
Do you like the NES? Of course you do! Everybody does. What if their existed a game that combined all your favorite NES games and was free to play? Well, then Abobo's Big Adventure is the game for you.
Yes, that is Abobo, the big muscle dude from Double Dragon, punching his way through hordes of Kung-Fu guys, Death from Castlevania and the old man from the Legend of Zelda. My personal favorite part is that the seaweed in the Mario Bros. underwater stage electrocutes you. That's just cruel.
The game is set to be released later this year and is going to be free to play, likely to avoid copyright issues. Hopefully all of the companies who hold the rights to the games and sprites have any sort of sense of humor and allow this game to exist. I'm looking forward to this love letter to the NES one way or another.
You can find more information at the game's official site located here.
