Review - Kirby's Dream Collection: Special Edition

Two years ago, Nintendo celebrated Mario’s 25th anniversary by releasing a special edition of Super Mario All-Stars for the Wii. It was disappointing. All it was was the original Super Mario All-Stars ROM slapped on a Wii disc for 40 dollars and it wasn’t even the version of All-Stars that came with Super Mario World! The original Mario games are great but Nintendo could have put way more effort into celebrating their biggest character’s birthday.

Thankfully, HAL Labs and Nintendo have decided to do just that to celebrate the Kirby franchises 20th anniversary. Kirby’s Dream Collection is everything a fan of the series could want in a compilation. It has great games, great menus and some really cool bonus features. It’s everything Super Mario All-Stars wasn’t.

Let's Try That Again - Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land

Yes, we of course love Kirby here at Adamant Ditto and nobody loves him more than Ricky (except maybe Tim), so Ricky decided to play the classic Kirby's Adventure...But then he changed his mind and played the remake instead. So get ready to take on Whispy Woods, King Dedede, Tock Tick, kamikaze UFOs and green Waddle Dees in this GBA remake of one of Kirby's most classic appearances.

We've been kind of short on material recently, mostly because we haven't recorded much. Well, we have some footage for a future LTTA recorded but it's a long one so who knows when that'll go up. The point is, I'm sorry we haven't had much lately. But it's okay because Ricky decided to do a new Let's Play for us of Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. It's a pretty funny one, if I do say so myself. So be sure to check it out.

Retro Review: Kirby's Dream Land

This year is Kirby's 20th birthday, so I'll be following in Matt's footsteps and doing a series of Kirby reviews. Where else to start but at the very beginning? Since I tend to ramble, these reviews will generally run longer than Matt's, as evidenced by this 10 minute review of a 25-minute game. And since they'll tend to run longer, I can't say how frequently they'll be released, so we might as well not wait 'til August to get started. So sit back and enjoy my first Kirby review!

VGM of the Week #24

Missed it by that much!

Sorry I'm a bit late this week. I really have no excuse.

Anyway, here's one of my favorites from one of my favorite games, last year's fabulous Kirby's Return to Dreamland.

This isn't my favorite song from the game, but it is the first one I'd recommend to anybody who wasn't yet sold on the soundtrack. Undoubtedly, Return to Dreamland's soundtrack is something of a step down from Kirby Super Star or even Canvas Curse, which has a fantastic soundtrack despite a severely limited number of original tracks. Still, the Kirby series has such consistently fantastic music that even the worst composition from Jun Ishikawa and Hirokazu Ando is sure to put a smile on your face.

In fact, this boss theme is actually my favorite boss theme in the Kirby series, and I think that alone is proof that while Return to Dreamland might not have the best Kirby soundtrack, it still has a pretty fantastic one.

As a aside, make sure to join us for our first weekly session of Brawl Bruisedays this Tuesday night!

Let's Try That Again - Kirby's Epic Yarn

Here's a Let's Try That Again that wasn't meant for the channel. Matt's girlfriend, Carissa, wanted to play Kirby's Epic Yarn with him and the rest of Adamant Ditto one night and one thing lead to another and we ended up deciding on putting it on the channel. There's a lot of off-topic conversations about Final Fantasy and technical problems but hey, it is us.

Yeah, so, me and my girlfriend played through Kirby's Epic Yarn and it was fun. We're terrible at it but that's a standard now. This LTTA was never meant to actually be a LTTA so there's a lot of off-topic conversations and stuff like that but hey, it can still be fun right? RIGHT!? Anyway, if you like Kirby or, hell, Final Fantasy, you're sure to enjoy it. Maybe.

First video is below and a link to the playlist is attached to that thumbnail up there.

VGM of the Week #10

It's Sunday, so it's time for some good VGM.

This week, I decided to go with a Track from a game I've been playing a lot of lately, Kirby Mass Attack:

The game has a wonderful soundtrack, as most Kirby games do, but this one just stuck out the most to me, in a good way. I think it also has something to do with the Kirby's dancing along the bottom of the Menu Screen, but I really like this Track, and I hope you do too!

I would also like to mention that sometimes when I start the game up, I'll just sit there and listen to this for a good minute or two before playing the game.

Let's Podcast - 2011 Year in Review

Just like last year, this year we decided to do a Podcast about all the games we played in 2011. Everything from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword to the 3DS to Portal 2 to the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The five us plus our good pal Phil share our opinions and thoughts about 2011 in Video games all while I play The Legend of Zelda quite poorly in honor of Zelda's 25th anniversary.

The first part is below, follow the annotation at the end to get to the next part.

LTTA: Kirby's Dream Land 3 Parts 13 & 14

And with this, children, our visit to Dream Land is concluded. Thanks for stickin' with us. It was a fun, if not totally frustrating, trip and it just goes to prove that every game we Let's Play turns out to be worse than we remember.

Part 14 is over an hour long because Don recorded it after I had some technical problems and I guess editing isn't something he enjoys doing. So be sure to take lots of breaks when watching that one.

LTTA: Kirby's Dream Land 3 Parts 9 & 10

Another day, another set of Kirby's Dream Land 3 videos. These don't seem to be very popular. We haven't gotten very many comments. What's up with that? Do you not like this game? Are we not funny enough for you? I can't blame you either way but it'd be nice to know.

LTTA: Kirby's Dream Land 3 Parts 7 & 8

Another day, another set of Kirby's Dream Land 3 videos. Fun times were had by all. Part 8 is shorter than the others because I was going for two stages per video, but the second stage that would have been in that video takes us sooo long, it had to be it's own video.

The Top Six Characters I Want in the Next Smash Bros. that Have No Chance of Making It

When it comes to Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. series, it seems like the one thing everybody always talks about is the roster. No matter what gaming site, blog or forum you visit, you’re bound to find a topic dedicated entirely to fans discussing and debating which characters deserve to be in the game, who they think will be in the game and who they want in the game. We here at Adamant Ditto have plenty of discussions about it, in fact, before Super Smash Bros. Brawl was released, it was all we talked about.

Everybody has their own opinions and favorites when it comes to Nintendo characters and it’s not hard to see why. Nintendo more so than any other gaming company out there has so many lovable and unique characters, there’s always going to be some character that people feel was unfairly left out. Though sometimes, it can be a little ridiculous. Just because a character is cool doesn’t mean they stand a chance of being playable. You may be a big fan of Umbreon or Agent J. from the Elite Beat Agents but chances are, they weren’t even considered.

Though thinking about it, we'll probably get Wesker instead.
So that’s what I’m looking at today. I’m counting down the top six characters I want in the next Smash Bros. game but have no chance of making it on the roster. Now keep in mind, this isn’t my list of my most wanted characters, there’s plenty I want in the next game that I feel actually stand a decent chance, such as Krystal, King K. Rool, Lil’ Mac, Starfy, Mega Man, I could go on and on. Yet, there are some characters I want to see that I know have no chance whatsoever of ever being playable. So without further delay, let’s begin the list.

LTTA: Kirby's Dream Land Parts 5 & 6

I know you're all excited about Mario Kart Madness. As you should be, those videos are hilarious. But we are still doing a Let's Play so not to be forgotten, here are the next two parts of Kirby's Dream Land 3.

LTTA: Kirby's Dream Land 3 Parts 3 & 4

Hey, thanks to all you folks out their who joined in on our Mario Kart Madness. It was a big hit and a lot of fun, even if I disconnected a lot. Sorry about that. If you missed it, I'll be putting up the videos probably within the next few days so look out for that.

In the mean time, here are the next two parts of our Kirby's Dream Land 3 Let's Try That Again. Enjoy!

LTTA: Kirby's Dream Land 3 Parts 1 & 2

Well, with Paper Mario out of the way, guess it was time for us to move on. Actually, we recorded this one during Paper Mario in anticipation of Kirby's Return to Dreamland. It just sort of happened, really. But it was still pretty fun and a little frustrating.

Review - Kirby's Return to Dreamland

Before I delve into a thorough analysis and review of Kirby's latest Wii outing, let me get something out in the open air.

I'm a person who loves Kirby games.

I've grown up with the little pink marshmallow, and his platforming escapades are near and dear to my heart. Kirby's Adventure is the first game I remember playing to completion, and since then there are few Kirby adventures I haven't played to completion. Kirby Super Star (and by extension, Kirby Super Star Ultra) is one of my very favorite games ever made.

So forgive me if this review comes garnished with a dash of bias.
