VGM of the Week #30

Hey there Party People, Are you ready for some Music? No? Well TOO BAD! 'Cause I have some Music that's straight outta a Video Game!

Going with a True Classic this time...One that should be embedded in our memories until the end of time

That's right, the Super Mario Bros. Theme! I'm surprised noone has used this yet, it's a True Classic. This song has probably been done with every instrument out there, remixed to death, but the Original is still the best version in my eyes. You have to love the Chiptune-y goodness of this amazing Classic.

So, enjoy this glimpse into the Red Plumber's Humble Beginnings

Review - Sonic Unleashed (Wii)

Yep. Finally got around to finishing this one. I know now that I will not finish these by June 23rd like I wanted. Oh well. Next time.

New Pokémon Sheet: Ledian

Ok, you guys should be really sick of me by now.

Ledian is awesome...Design-wise. Stat-wise...Not so much (Except for Special Defense, which is pretty awesome...It's Speed's not half-bad either). Other than it's awesome design, there's not much to say about him...

Next up is a Pokémon who, in the Pokémon Red and Blue Beta, was originally named "Sandstorm"

New Pokémon Sheet: Noctowl

Yet another sheet! Are you guys sick of me yet?

I love owls, and Noctowl's no exception. As mentioned in the hint for Noctowl, he was the first and only Shiny Pokémon that Ash actually caught, which is cool...If I remember correctly, back when I was a kid, around where I live, that spiraled into a rumor that Hoothoot/Noctowl were the easiest Shiny Pokémon to find (Next to the red Gyarados we all saw and most caught)...Anyway, enough about my childhood...This guy has half decent stats, and I totally need to make one

Next up is a Bug-Type Pokémon who can learn Mach Punch via Level up

Brawl Bruisedays - 05/22/12 Highlights

This week's Brawl Bruiseday was pretty bad. The lag showed up in full force and caused us to shut the whole thing down ahead of schedule. We tried to do an all Smash Balls event and for the most part that went okay but the lag left us all feeling a little sour. We've got a few matches for you that are worth checking out still but don't expect any absolute gold.

The Top 5 HD Collections We Need

The video game industry loves reusing what it already has. Ever since the days of Atari, video game ports and remakes have graced every console, sometimes even with inferior products. But now as the end of the seventh generation of gaming draws closer, there’s become a new way for developers to resell the same ol’ games; HD Collections.

Did you know there's a Sly Cooper 2?
Now, a lot of people write off HD Collections as just a lazy attempt to make some quick cash and it some regards that’s true but I personally quite like the idea of HD Collections. I didn’t get to play very many games in the PS2 generation and I played none on the X-Box, so the idea of being able to go back and play games like Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, Jak and Daxter, and Sly Cooper all on one convenient disc is pretty awesome. Not to mention, the graphics are prettier, most developers add trophies and some even release games for consoles they’ve never been on before. HD Collections are awesome. So, I’m looking at the five collections I’d love to see and what I’d like to see done with them. I’d do more than five but I was having a hard time thinking of even five that don’t have them yet so just five for now.

VGM of the Week #29

It's that time again. I've got a nice little ditty for you; from Sonic Colors, it's Aquarium Park, Act 1.

All the tracks in Sonic Colors are pretty stellar (see what I did there?) but Aquarium Park really sticks out to me. It manages to be so peaceful and serene and, dare I say it, beautiful, even with a speedy, thumping techno beat. That's no easy feat, but it's pulled off with real panache here. The way this track is arranged actually reminds me a lot of Soichi Terada, one of my favorite video game composers.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this soothing melody as much as I do. I promise next time I'll pick a song from a non-Nintendo console.

Retro Review: Kirby's Dream Land

This year is Kirby's 20th birthday, so I'll be following in Matt's footsteps and doing a series of Kirby reviews. Where else to start but at the very beginning? Since I tend to ramble, these reviews will generally run longer than Matt's, as evidenced by this 10 minute review of a 25-minute game. And since they'll tend to run longer, I can't say how frequently they'll be released, so we might as well not wait 'til August to get started. So sit back and enjoy my first Kirby review!

New Pokémon Sheet: Fearow

Man, I need to stop working so fast, I don't want to hurt myself!

Fearow has always been a Pokémon who I didn't really like, yet didn't completely hate...I don't know what it is about Fearow, but I never really wanted one (I don't think I ever went out of my way to Evolve it, unless I needed it for the Pokédex, and even then, you could just go out and catch one...)

Next up is the only Shiny Pokémon Ash owns (Yes, I know, I rarely go into the Anime's territory)

Brawl Bruisedays - 05/15/12 Highlights

This week's Brawl Bruiseday was...interesting. It was hectic, it was loud, there were a lot of people and a lot of technical problems. Not to mention the lag monster showed up and shut us down ahead of schedule. Still, we had a handful of good matches worth showing you folks. Just, try not to get too confused. There is a lot of us talking at once and Jess's brother Brookes was a special guest she brought a long and he kind of sounds like Tim who was also there. It's all very confusing. GOOD LUCK!

VGM of the Week #28

Suddenly it's my turn. Well, hopefully you're all out enjoying lunch with your mothers or something. Oh, did you just remember? Well, maybe you can whip something up to this:

New Pokémon Sheet: Arbok + Ekans Remake

Two! Count 'em, Two sheets!...Ok, so Ekans wasn't really a full remake...even though I changed everything on his sheet, I still kept most of the old parts (of course, I got rid of it's movement altogether, giving him a better slither)

But this update's more about Arbok...I've always liked Arbok. He's huge! (That's what she said) Prior to starting this sheet, I didn't really realize this, but over the years, he's had two different Markings on his 'chest'...(It says it in some of it's Pokédex entries, but with the current games, they've all had the same markings-the ones that make up this sheet) They're not too different from one another, but you can definitley tell the difference (As the 'other' one looks more face-like, with more defined eyes, and an 'open' mouth). That subtle difference is awesome!

I'll be away for a week, so I'll just leave you with the next hint:
Next up is the only non-Ground-Type Pokémon who can learn Drill Run

Let's Try That Again - LittleBigPlanet

This time, we're taking on one of the PS3's flagship titles, Littlebigplanet. Matt, Don and for the first time, Josh and Phil team up and create what may be the worst team in gaming history. There's lots of deaths, suicides, crazy physics and tons of humor. It might be our funniest yet. So sit back, relax and grab some littlebigpopcorn and enjoy Littlebigplanet.

I can't get enough of this one. It is just too funny. One of our funniest, for sure. The combined elements of four of us on screen at once, single hit deaths, puzzles that require teamwork and the comedic genius that is Phil Sykes make for one hilarious Let's Play.

There's only four videos up so far but the rest will be coming soon. You can check out the first below.

Brawl Bruisedays - 05/08/12 Highlights

This week's Brawl Bruiseday was quite explosive because, well, it was an all explosives week. Gooey Bombs, Smart Bombs, Bob-Ombs, all explosions, all the time. There was less of us this time we still got some fun matches in. So here's the best matches of the night.

First video is below, second is after the jump.

New Pokémon Sheet: Quagsire

Man, I'm a machine these past few days! I might be getting back into the Groove!

Quagsire's a really cool Pokémon. He looks very simple, almost having a Ditto-esque face. I really love his design, but his stats are just kind of 'Meh.' His speed is atrocious, but hey, Trick Room. If you set him up right, he can do some pretty sweet damage while in Trick Room...Especially if it knows Curse and Ice Punch (Which Wooper could have in Fourth Gen, despite not having Arms, let alone a fist!)

Next up is a Pokémon who's Chest Pattern has changed multiple times from game to game (It's Pokedex Entry suggests that it can, but in all recent games, it has had the same Pattern)

Let's Try That Again - Sailor Moon R

As is common around here, this one happened on accident when Ricky and Matt were just playing some games. They ended up beating it and thought it was funny, so it became a Let's Play. So enjoy as they fight off Plok and Boob Ladies in the manliest beat 'em up ever made and try to answer the ultimate question; just who is hotter?

Yeah, this one happened on accident but hey, it was a fun one so why not put it up? It's really short, our new shortest ever, in fact and honestly, I wanted to get it up sooner rather than later so that we can get our next LTTA up in the coming week.

As always, first video is below, it links to the playlist as does that thumbnail. Total runtime: 42:21.

VGM of the Week #27

My turn again. As you likely know, The Avengers came out this weekend and it was awesome. One of the best superhero movies yet. Just seeing all these famous, brilliantly acted characters on screen at the same times, battling enemies and each other was fantastic. It had a lot of character, a lot of action and a lot of humor, everything you'd want out of a Marvel film of recent years.

So, what could I do to honor The Avengers? Well, how about something from Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3? Of the five Avengers playable in Ultimate, I could have gone with any one of their themes, they're all great, but I decided to go with Hawkeye. Hawkeye's theme is fun, loud, rockin' and full of energy, much like the character himself.

Hawkeye obviously didn't get as much screen time as his fellow Avengers (even Black Widow), but what he did get made him out to be the badass we all know he is. Not to spoil anything, but some of my favorite scenes in the final climactic battle involve Hawkeye. Marvel, Disney, Hollywood, give this guy his own film!

New Pokémon Sheet: Pidgeot

Well, I got this sheet done pretty quick! I guess it was pretty easy because he's basically a slightly bigger Pidgeotto

I really like Pidgeot! He's still my favorite basic bird Pokémon. In all of the Kanto and Johto games (R/B/Y/FR/LG/G/S/HG/SS), he's been a part of my Team. Yep, good ol' Pidgeot's been on my Team since the very beginning, and I'm glad because he's pretty useful.

Next up is a Water-Type Pokémon who didn't have arms, until it evolved

Let's Try That Again - Mega Man X4 - Zero Playthrough

We're back with Mega Man X's foray into the 32-bit world! For the first time, you get to choose between X and Zero, complete with their own story and cutscenes and unique gameplay. Since Zero has the hair and is top tier, it only makes sense that we had to go with him for this LTTA! So, prepare your butts for some Cyber Mandarins as Don runs through this one.

So Don finally got around to getting this one up. We recorded it a while back, even more Scott Pilgrim, but we never got it up. Well, here it is. It's pretty good. Don knows the game pretty well and David was there and he makes everything better. So yeah, enjoy that.

First part is below, it links to the playlist as does that thumbnail up there. Total runtime:  2:14:35

Brawl Bruisedays - 05/01/12 Highlights

Our third Brawl Bruiseday was our worst yet. The lag was bad and there was a lot of yelling and talking over two different matches. Still, we managed to get a lot more humorous moments out of it than we initially thought!

Also, as to not confuse anyone, we had two separate matches going on at once so if you hear some of us talking about one thing but we're not in that current match, we were in our own elsewhere.

You can check out the first part below and the second after the jump.
