Pokémon Sheet Remake: Charmeleon

Well, I guess I lost some steam, but hey, I think I'm back!

I've always loved the Charmander line, and Charmeleon's no exception. Charmeleon's a total badass. Like all of the Gen. 1 Starter Middle Forms, he's the Teenager who's got an attitude problem, and it just adds to his charm. I think it also has something to do with him reminding me of a Raptor (Even though he's clearly just a lizard...), but he's totally the coolest middle form ever, and if Charizard didn't one-up him for me, he'd be my favorite Fire Starter of all time (The line as a whole is my favorite, but Charizard just barely edges out Charmeleon for me)

Snorlax is being remade next!

VGM of the Week #65

Hey, it's Josh again with another VGM of the Week!

This time, I wanted to go with something that I think is just awesome...NintendoLand has a Ton of Charming Content, but I love almost every Remix that appears in the game (As well as the few completely original tracks)...

My favorite remix happens to be from a game that I have yet to play in NintendoLand, Mario Chase. The Music from Mario Chase's Chase Arena is a wonderful remix of Super Mario Bros. 3's Athletic Theme...I think all of the Bleeps & Bloops, as well as the Background music really add something to this Classic Mario tune.

Extra Joy #7 - Wii U Nintendo Direct

Yesterday, Nintendo announced a whole ton of stuff at their latest Nintendo Direct conference all about the Wii U. Things we haven't heard of before, things we wanted and things we didn't know we wanted until now. Bombs were dropped and we came from the battlefield cover in ash. So naturally, we decided to talk about it in podcast form. It might be shorter than our average Extra Joys but hey, if you want to know what we thought of all the news, it might be worth a listen.

You can check out the downloadable MP3 version here.

Pokémon Sheet Remake: Wartortle

It's been a few days, but I'm back with a new...remake!

I always really liked the Squirtle line...I mean, I really like all of the first Gen Starters, and Wartortle always stuck out as the strangest Middle Form for a Starter (Well, at least in Gen 1)...Don't get me wrong, he's still really cool, but there's just so much that I don't understand...like why his Ears & Tail get so big, just to shrink when it evolves...All-in-all, I really like Wartortle...I just always found that a little strange...

Charmeleon's being remade next!

VGM of the Week #64

So I guess I should probably do an N64 track this week, hmm?

NOPE.

Instead, take this hauntingly beautiful tune from Streets of Rage!

This tune just hits me. Fun fact, the first time I heard this track was actually not from a Sega Genesis but when my dad played it on an old keyboard. I immediately had to know what those sweet chords were from, and knowing is half the battle. Anyway, enjoy.

Review - Tokyo Crash Mobs

Japanese culture is a very peculiar thing. It’s something that so many people across the world have an affinity for, yet very few people actually understand. There’s a reason the US missed out on most of the Godzilla films throughout the 90’s. There’s a reason you don’t see very many Japanese game shows on TV except in parody form. And there’s a good reason a lot of games considered to be “too Japanese” don’t make it to the states. Which makes it all the more surprising that Nintendo’s latest eShop game, Tokyo Crash Mobs, did make it to the shores. It’s easily one of the strangest games I’ve ever played and it’s a part of a genre that’s never been known for its weirdness; the puzzle game.

Tokyo Crash Mobs was developed in part by Mitchell Corporation, the company responsible for the Magnetica games released on the DS and WiiWare, and they share a lot of the same gameplay mechanics. The big difference is instead of rolling colorful marbles at other colorful marbles, you’re two young women throwing Japanese people in colorful suits at other Japanese people in colorful suits to make chains and score points. Make sense?

Pokémon Sheet Remake: Abra

Oh man, it's so rare to run into one of these! *Abra uses Teleport.* ...FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

So, I've already pretty much said all I can say about the Abra line with Kadabra and Alakazam, so this will be a short post...

Wartortle's being remade next

Pokémon Sheet Remake: Meowth

That's Right!

Yes, Meowth was the newest one to be remade...If you've been following my Project, you'd notice that the original is...Well, not my best work...I decided to give this Mascot (Well, the Villain's...of the Show) a remake...I've always loved Meowth. I can't quite put my finger on why, but I just think he's awesome all around...

Abra's up for the remake treatment next!

Disney Infinity Announced for a Summer Release

Pokémon X and Y? What's that? Let's talk about something far more exciting; Disney Infinity.

A while back, rumors started to circle about an upcoming Disney Interactive project that was being designed to out Skylanders Skylanders and feature a wealth of Disney characters. Concept art surfaced earlier in the month, like the picture I used for the header, but few details were released about the game other than the title and the fact that it would bring a bunch of Disney characters together. Today, the game was officially announced and it is glorious.

Pokémon Sheet Remake: Togepi

So, you'll notice the Title's different...That's because it would be a lie if I said it was new, I had already made Togepi once before, but the quality was lacking...I tend to remake old Pokémon sheets to keep up with the growing quality...So the Project's in this kind of endless cycle...I make Pokémon to get better, I get better, I have to remake Pokémon for quality control...Anyway, two sheets in a day is pretty quick

Togepi's awesome...What's not to like!? If you're like me, you first saw Togepi as an Egg in the Anime...He was the first new Pokémon we ever saw (Well, aside from the Golden Ho-oh from the first episode...)...There's not much to say about him

Remakes are going to be a common thing over the next few weeks (And every so often after), so rather than Hints, I'll just flat out tell you that Meowth's being remade next

New Pokémon Sheet: Corsola

Man, I'm on a Roggenrolla! That...was a horrible pun...you might even say it was...Cofagrigus! I don't mean to upstage Kyle's VGM of the Week (Which is awesome, BTW. You should check it out!)

Corsola's always been kind of strange to me...I mean, I like it and everything, but it's always just been kind of...there...It's stats are less than stellar (pretty good defenses, sub-par everything else)...

I'll be doing a slew of remakes next, so don't expect this hint to be fulfilled for a while:
Next up is a Pokémon who will die if it stops bouncing

VGMotW #63

I know, I know, I'm late again. But, as promised in our Q&A vid, here's the music to accompany the god of Pokemon.

New Pokémon Sheet: Alakazam

Ok, so far, it looks like I'm back on track...2 sheets in under a week...

Alakazam's the definition of a Glass Cannon: Awesome Sp. Attack & Speed, and terrible everything else...Here's an interesting fact about him: Alakazam weighs less than Kadabra...I'm assuming because he got rid of all that junk in his trunk. I've always liked Alakazam...Not just because of his amazing stats, or the fact that he has an awesome 'stache...It's purely because of how overpowered he was in Gen. 1. Oh how cruel it was to bust out a Psychic type back then...

Next up is one of the only two Water/Rock Pokémon that is not revived from a Fossil

Friday, January 11, 2013

New Pokémon Sheet: Kadabra

Geez, I need to get back on track...I started Kadabra right after I finished Piloswine, and it's been almost 23 days!

I really like Kadabra, he's cool, Powerful, and oh-so-fragile...His tail's also really big for some reason. So big that he looks nothing like Kadabra without it!

Next up is a Pokémon who's IQ is said to be 5,000

Review - Sonic Generations (Video)

I'm posting over myself because I find this to be somewhat important. I finally finished my Sonic Generations review! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Now everyone can stop pestering me about it and start pestering about something else!

VGM of the Week #62

My turn for VGM of the Week and I actually get the first VGM of the Year. Whoa! This is a big deal. I gotta pick something great. I could do the New Years theme from Animal Crossing but Josh just did that game. I could do the Clock Town theme from Majora's Mask to represent the dawn of a new year but we've already done several Zelda themes.

So then I decided "screw it" and am just going with a theme from a franchise I just got into last year but is already one of my favorites of all time; Uncharted.

The Uncharted games are a ton of fun and really make you feel like you're on an adventure and part of that has to do with the amazing score. It sounds like it would accompany an action/adventure movie like Indiana Jones or James Bond. It's really impressive and this happens to be my favorite track from said games.

Yes, I know I pretty much picked the main theme from the most popular entry in the series but let's face it, there's a reason it's a popular theme; it's epic. It perfectly encapsulates both the feel of the games and the feel of the main character. You feel like you're on an adventure, searching for lost treasures and mysterious temples with this guy. You feel the excitement and the danger lurking at every corner. This is an amazing main theme for any game or film but it works on an even higher level with Uncharted.

Adamant Ditto Review: Kyle Buys Code of Princess Blind

I know you've heard the phrase, "Don't judge a book by its cover." Well, while that idiom applies to a lot of things, I succumbed to this game's cover. I had never heard of it and its cover was artsy and alluring cover that a lot of games just don't have. Anyhow, I read the box, I opened it up and read the pamphlet, I get as much info about the game as I could while standing in a Gamestop and eventually gave in. I was just too curious. Anyways, here's my review of Code of Princess buying blind.

Extra Joy #6 - 2012 Year in Review

At the start of every year, we discuss the year that just passed in a very big podcast. We've done it twice before and now we've done it again. The six of us, and later Phil, sat down for almost three hours and just talked about all the games that came out in 2012 that we played. So sit back, pop a game in, grab some snacks and listen to us ramble about 2012 in gaming.

You can get a MP3 version of this podcast right here.
